TUB Soundscape Project: Concept & Projects (en)

Abstract:
Project Laboratories/"Projektwerkstätten" give students the opportunity to self dependently work on practical, interdisciplinary and innovative projects. Any students who can find enough interested other students can realize these workshops, only having to fulfil the following conditions: the projects should allude a topic that is not covered by regular studies at TU Berlin, they should offer an alternative to regular teaching methods at TU Berlin, they should be ecologically and socially usable and/or interdisciplinary projects. In the TUB Soundscape Project, supervised by Prof. Dr. André Fiebig from the department of psychoacoustics, interested students explore the concepts of acoustic ecology. We aim to explore the connection between our acoustic environment, scientific data, technology, society and artistic thinking in practice on the TU Berlin campus, as well as the potential of sound to serve as a socio-political tool and science communication.Scientific, critical and creative engagement with acoustic environments requires an interdisciplinary approach and students from different backrgrounds are the actual users of the campus, making them the "local experts", a thriving principle in soundscape studies. The project allows students to approach the topic of soundscape from different perspectives and aims to combine theory with practical implementation projects and student interventions.
