Abstract: The topic of this paper is the automatized tracking and classification of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) by processing measurements with microphone arrays. The position estimation of sound sources is based on the Delay-and-Sum method, which is the superposition of the suitably delayed and amplified received sound signals. The Delay-and-Sum method can be enhanced further by using beamforming algorithms, for example MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification). This algorithm is based on the eigenvalue decomposition of the cross-spectral matrix of the received signals. Beamforming can be used to create amplitude maps, which are visual representations of the source distribution. Tracking moving sound sources can be done with MUSIC complemented with the Kalman-filter algorithm. Our goal is to determine the position of moving sound sources with beamforming and tracking, then to focus on the estimated position, enhance the sound source and improve the signal-to-noise ratio. The enhanced signals can be used more effectively for the classification of UAVs by looking for unique features in the spectra of their emitted sound.
