Frequency response characterization of the welding process in Ultrasonic Metal Welding (en)

Abstract: Ultrasonic metal welding is a welding technique often used in the production of lithium ion batteries. Despite its wide use, it suffers from fluctuations in strength which are hard to control. This limitation could be improved with a better monitoring of the welding process. In this work, a frequency response analysis of the welding process is done by using measurements of the vibrations of key machine parts, the anvil and horn. Changes in the measured frequency response during welding are used to characterize welding stages. The results are compared to other results in the literature.
