Abstract: A fast and in-depth understanding of aeroacoustic performance in axial fan applications is vital for the respective manufacturers, as the acoustic requirements of the market are becoming more and more stringent. In this respect, numerical methods can provide valuable insights related to the aeroacoustic performance of axial fans. This study revisits how SIMULIA PowerFLOW®, a transient compressible solver based on the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), can effectively evaluate the flow-induced noise in the European Acoustics Association (EAA) case of a low-pressure axial fan. Boundary and design operating conditions are applied to the geometric model reproducing the experimental setup with high fidelity. In a final step, the simulation and the experimental results are compared and show good agreement. This work demonstrates that simulations based on an LBM approach provide accurate and reliable results with computational effort that allows design iterations within an industrial context.
